The Challenge
The NSW Waratahs are one of the premiere clubs playing in the NSW Super Rugby competition with loyal and passionate fans at every game. We were approached to develop a plan to keep fans engaged whilst not physically in the venue. Keeping them informed on ticket sales, merchandise, memberships, and all news relating to their club.
The Game Plan
Our approach included the idea to create a community that truly felt like they are part of the team. We would do this by providing information as it happens: notifications as tickets go on sale, game rosters when they are published, sponsor signings and player news. We wanted to make the fan feel that the game and their club wasn’t only on the field of play for a game a week.
The plan included developing interactive features to keep fans entertained and engaged from the venue or from the comfort of their home. Voting on Tahs of the match with the polling feature or music selections with our jukebox feature along with exclusive content not available anywhere else.
The Result
When the app was launched and as tickets went on sale - along with content uploaded into the app - notifications were sent to users to encourage them to engage with the app and remain involved in all aspects of it.
Cross promotion with merchandise and links to memberships ensured the club had additional opportunities to maximise revenue with minimal promotional activity.
The lead up to match-day saw a profound improvement as fans were better informed about match day details, promotional activities and all “current news” surrounding the team.
